Vernaculars Beatles' Abbey Road Live!Come Together!
The Beatles stopped touring in 1966. One reason: their music was becoming too complex to perform live. Or so they thought. The Vernaculars, Catawba's flagship popular music will perform all of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album live on tour in early March.
Performances will include:
- March 3 - Guilford Tech Community College
High Point, NC (7:00pm)
- March 4 - chARTer~TECH High School
Somers Point, NJ
- March 5 - Hard Rock Cafe, Times Square
New York City (9:00pm)
The Guilford Tech and Hard Rock performances are free and open to the public.
Rock U a Best Music School
The Vernaculars is the flagship ensemble of Catawba's degree concentration in popular music and music business. One of only about a dozen American colleges and universities with a curriculum specifically designed for students of popular music, Catawba has become home to a growing number of talented performers and songwriters.
Over the past five years, five Catawba students have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the national John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition. It is a far a better result than any other school in a contest that receives thousands of entries each year.
In Tune Monthly recently named Catawba a Best Music School for 2011 in an annual article on top colleges and universities. This is the fourth year the magazine has listed Catawba alongside such established institutions as Julliard, Eastman, Peabody, and Berklee.
Vernaculars
Rare among college ensembles, the Catawba College Vernaculars is dedicated to the performance of contemporary popular music.
Each semester's playlist comes from three primary sources:
* Recent songs of artistic influence and inspiration.
* Legacy works that have established the foundation of contemporary popular music.
* Original pieces by members of the ensemble.
Backstage and Online Auditions
Backstage scholarship auditions during the Abbey Road tour can be arranged for college-bound students of popular music. Online auditions are also possible. To arrange either a backstage or online audition, contact Dr. David Lee Fish at dlfish@catawba.edu.
