SNCAE Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE)

Catawba's prospective teachers club, the SNCAE, is open to anyone majoring or minoring in education. The regular monthly meetings are devoted to the professional and social enrichment of the members and to the advancement and refinement of the profession. SNCAE sponsors many activities and fundraisers throughout the year.

Activities have included:

Meet N Greet

Meet 'n Greet
SNCAE hosted a "meet 'n greet" in September open to all students interested in majoring or minoring in education. Freshman students could connect with upperclass mentors and get to know some of their fellow classmates with an interest in teacher education.

Halloween FunFest
Each year, students gather in the Fulton Heights neighborhood to help with their Halloween Festival. Children and families gather for face painting, costume judging, and a parade of the costumed children. Students also collect canned goods from local neighborhoods at this time for donation to Rowan Helping Ministries.

In 2006 this group collected over 395 pounds of non-perishable foods and the 2007 collection exceeded 700 pounds.

Tree LightingHanging of the Greens
SNCAE is responsible for "hanging the greens."  Students decorate the railings of a 3 story atrium in Ketner Hall and celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.

SNCAE President, Christine Ofslager thanks Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ketner for their generous donation of an 18-foot artificial Christmas tree.  Mr. Ketner officially lit the tree at the Hanging of the Greens Ceremony.  Students are looking forward to adding more decorations for next year.
