Change the Face of American Theatre While Connecting with the World

Catawba College’s Theatre Arts program seeks to cultivate the growth of well-rounded artists and scholars who are accomplished leaders and theatre-makers, valuing creativity and collaboration as a way of understanding and connecting with the world.

Theatre Arts - Watson Intelligence Production

Catawba College’s Theatre Arts program has the structure in place to teach its performing arts undergraduates all of the necessary routines in the discipline. You’ll be trained to adapt to a rapidly-shifting theatrical landscape while engaging in interdisciplinary, provocative, and intellectually demanding courses. You and your fellow classmates will even show your work competitively as performers, designers, playwrights, stage managers, and directors at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV Conference.

Theatre Arts faculty fully expect our graduates to make the theatre profession a better place for all participants – audience and artists – and to always give back to the community. Our graduates are marketable precisely because they depart our performing arts program with both the depth of a focused skill set and the breadth that comes from a solid and enduring liberal arts foundation that helps them to connect their passions with the concerns of a greater global community.

Theatre Arts Facilities Tour

Take a student-led guided tour of the theatre arts venues and facilities at Catawba College.

At Catawba, you have the ability to expand your skills in theatre. I have had the chance to work in tech, be on the stage, and help direct. Being on stage is the best opportunity for an actor to learn and grow, but a really good way to expand your acting abilities is to sit on the other side of the table and direct. When I go out into the world, I know I will be prepared because I have an education and experience in many areas. Read more...

Participate

Theatre Student Performer

Let your passion for Theatre Arts thrive by participation in The Blue Masque, Catawba College Theatre Arts’ student organization. Open to all students, Theatre Arts majors and non-majors alike, the Blue Masque hosts a variety of social activities, fundraisers, and service projects each year and is one of the oldest and largest clubs on campus.

Through the Blue Masque Alumni Facebook page, the annual Blue Masque Hall of Fame celebration, and the Adopt a Senior program, Catawba’s Theatre Arts majors connect with a vast network of Theatre Arts alumni who are working in all areas of the performing arts both nationally and abroad. Catawba Theatre Arts alumni offer graduating students employment advice, provide locale information, and often serve as a conduit to help performing arts degree grads land an audition or a job interview.

Catawba College Theatre Arts students frequently aspire to join Catawba’s Chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the national Theatre Honor Society. Alpha Psi Omega is an active social and service organization for aspiring Theatre Arts professionals whose primary aim is to encourage dramatic production at every step in a person’s academic career.
