Psychology Major; English Minor

"I chose psychology as my major because I thought it would be a great foundation for my further studies in clinical mental health counseling. Ideally, I would love to work in a hospital setting with cancer patients and their families. I truly long to make a difference in the world, and I believe counseling those in need would be a wonderful way to do that. Plus, psychology itself can help me gain more insight and empathetic understanding of how people think and feel, which surely will help me in becoming a competent, compassionate counselor."

Kathleen Burris '16
Psychology Major

"I love all of the professors in Catawba's psychology department. They are all so inviting and make classes a pleasurable experience. I have been interested in psychology since I was a young girl, and even at elementary school age I had visions of becoming a psychologist. I am not fully decided on what career I want to pursue with my major, but I am strongly considering becoming a counselor of some sort. I want to get my bachelor's degree here at Catawba and work later towards a master's degree. I think everyone should take at least one psychology course before they graduate, because even if people don't plan on majoring in the field, I think they would be astounded at how psychology topics surround us all in everyday life ... and it's just plain interesting."

Evan Schultz '17
