The Noyce Exploratory Internship program allows Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) students majoring in a STEM discipline to explore a career in science or math education.

Program Description:

  • 12 students from RCCC will be selected to participate in a summer internship experience.  Students may apply for these internships during their first or second years of college at RCCC.
  • These paid internships may take place at a variety of STEM education sites. For example, Catawba College’s Center for the Environment, Horizon Unlimited, RCCC’s Early College, and Discovery Place in Charlotte, NC or from selected museums, zoos, or STEM camps in the region.
  • The paid experience will be a total of 175-200 hours.
  • Internship opportunities will be carefully designed so that interns gain experience in both the STEM discipline and educational outreach with K-12 students.

The intern will take an online course EDUC 2000:  "Introduction to Teaching and Educational Technology" offered by Catawba College.  In this course, interns will study teaching as a profession with emphasis on 21st century skills, professional duties, policies, law and ethics, organizational structure, and student needs. Interns will not have to pay tuition for this course; it is included in the internship experience! EDUC 2000 is a required prerequisite course for entry into the Teacher Education Program at Catawba College.
