Wei Jiao

As a versatile soloist and devoted chamber musician, Dr. Wei Jiao has given performances in North Carolina, Ohio, New York, Georgia, Maine and China.  She was awarded the Grand Prize in the Student Artist Concerto competition at the UNCG School of Music, and performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the UNCG Symphony Orchestra. Jiao also won the concerto competition at CSU resulting in a performance with the university orchestra. She received the Alternate prize in the Young Artist Piano Competition of the Georgia Music Teachers Association and the first prize scholarship from the Atlanta Music Club and was awarded the Young Artist Fellowship from Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Summer Festival in Maine.

Jiao is currently on faculty at Catawba College and Queens University of Charlotte.  Passionate in music education and community service, Jiao also teaches privately, and for the Catawba Community Music Program.  She is affiliated with numerous professional organizations including College Music Society and Music Teacher’s National Association. 

Wei Jiao, born in Shenyang, Liaoning, People’s Republic of China, started to play piano at the age of six, continued her studies at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music eventually receiving a BM in Music Education.  She came to the United States in 2003 as the recipient of the Woodruff Award from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University where she completed a BM in Piano Performance, summa cum laude.  Jiao holds a MM in Piano Performance from Syracuse University and a Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
