Technology Information for New/Prospective Students & Campus Guests

  • Information About Student Personal Computers (PDF)
Includes information about hardware/software requirements and recommendations, as well as information about technology purchasing discounts for Catawba College students, and network access. Catawba College supports secure wired and wireless network access for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Apple computers.

  • Download Microsoft Security Essentials
Catawba College requires current virus-protection technology on all Windows computers that connect to the network. Anyone without virus-protection should consider Microsoft Security Esssentials, a reliable and free option.

  • Network Access for Students: CatNetConnect
Once you are student and have been assigned a Catawba username and password, visit the link above for instructions on setting up your Windows or Apple computer to connect to the secure catuskynet2 wireless network or the wired network. Gaming consoles may also be registered to work on the wired network. Secure wired and wireless are available in most campus buildings, including the residence halls.

  • Network Access for Campus Guests (PDF)
Follow these instructions to connect to the low-security unencrypted guest wireless network, catuskynet-portal, which requires no special set up.
It does require a valid Catawba username and password. Although catuskynet2 is recommended, commuting students may elect to use catuskynet-portal. Resident students and employees must use catuskynet2.

  • Smartphone/Tablet: Connect to Secure Wireless (PDF)

  • Smartphone/Tablet: Connect to Email/Calendar/Contacts (PDF)

  • Fees and Charges (PDF)
There is no charge for internet service. Network cables and a virus/spyware removal service are available for purchase. Other than for resolving network connectivity issues, the Information Technology department does not work on student computers, but can recommend local computer service companies that offer a Catawba College discount.
