Dr. RENEE MCCACHREN teaches music theory, history and piano and serves as the Director of Catawba's Freshman Program. She is currently on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy. During 2000, she served as a member of the ARIA planning team and faculty for a summer institute for professional development at University of Miami sponsored by the College Music Society. She is the Immediate Past President of Music Theory SouthEast and the Music Theory representative for College Music Society Mid-Atlantic Chapter. Recipient of several grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, she specializes in the history of music theory; research interests range from the sixteenth-century madrigal to Beethoven. She has presented her research at regional, national, and international conferences. She authored several articles for the recently published Reader's Guide to Music: History, Theory, Criticism and for the Encyclopedia of the Romantic Era. She also has participated in music and fine arts delegations to Indonesia, Eastern Europe, and Russia. She is an active member of Society for Music Theory, American Musicological Society, and College Music Society.
