Answers

  1. Do you waive application fees for international students?
    For all applicants, the only way to have an application fee waived is if he/she brings a completed application to an Open House at Catawba College. Otherwise, it is not a general practice for us to waive international application fees.

  2. What are the minimum standardized test scores that an international applicant must have to be considered for admission to Catawba College?
    For students applying from a country where English IS the native language:
    • A combined SAT score of 900 with at least a 450 on the Critical Reading section
    • ACT score of at least Composite 18

    For students applying from a country where English is NOT the native language:

    • TOEFL minimum score(s):
      • TOEFL Paper-based exam 525
      • TOEFL Computer-based exam 197
      • TOEFL Internet-based exam
    • A combined SAT score of 900 with at least a 450 on the Critical Reading section
    • APIEL minimum score of "3"
    • Complete Level 109 from an English as a Second Language (ESL) language center

  3. Can international students receive full academic scholarships to Catawba College?
    Yes. To be considered, a student must apply for admission and meet certain merit qualifications to be eligible for any scholarship.

  4. Can international students receive athletic scholarships from Catawba College?
    Yes. To be considered, you need to contact the coach from your respective sport. You may find each coach's contact information at www.gocatawbaindians.com. Each coach runs his/her own scholarship budget, so the amounts of scholarships vary.

  5. What Visa do international students need to obtain to attend Catawba College?
    All international students attending Catawba College are here on an F-1 student visa.

  6. What is the Certificate of Finances and why are international students required to provide this documentation?
    The Certificate of Financesmust accompany documentation of your proof of financial ability. As an international student it is necessary for you to provide proof that you have the financial means to pay for [at least] your first year of tuition and living expenses in order for Catawba College to issue your I-20. This is also a federal requirement for international students on F-1 status. Tuition, room, and board at Catawba College for the 2007-2008 academic year is $28,025 USD, and this cost does not include books or other general living expenses. Examples of ways to prove your financial ability for your first year are listed below:
    1. Original letter (not faxed or photocopied) from your bank listing sufficient account balances to pay your tuition and living expenses
    2. Original letter (not faxed or photocopied) from your bank stating that you have been approved for a loan which would cover your tuition and living expenses
    3. Certified letter from a US Sponsor (who is either a US Citizen or a US Permanent Resident) indicating the amount of money that he/she can pay towards all or a portion of your tuition and living expenses along with an original letter from his/her bank indicating account balances or an approved loan amount
    4. Deposit receipts are NOT acceptable means of proof of financial ability
    5. All documentation should be recently dated

  7. Can international students legally work to help pay for tuition?
    F-1 international students are legally able to work on-campus [part-time during fall & spring semesters] and earn up to $2000 per academic year.
