    The Wonders of Wine
    Instructor:  Dr. Fred Corriher

The course will dwell on the history of wine; on the various grape varieties and methods of cultivation and vinification; and on the particularities of the wines of the Burgundy region on France, a region the instructor had visited over 25 times.  There will be two white wines and two red wines poured, tasted and discussed.

Corriher will be pouring and discussing only wines from one region in France - Burgundy which is his particular area of concentration.  The wines will be donated by his son Frederick '99 and his company, Frederick Corriher Wines.

The Complex, Strange, and Dangerous World We Live In

    Instructor:  Dr. Sanford Silverburg
    Room 219, Hedrick Administration Building

The modern and now contemporary world reflects a globe that has shrunk in size, has seen greater migration of peoples from one place to another, experienced a change in the nature of armed conflict from world wars to more local ones.  Along with conflict within various regions, we have, unfortunately, witnessed the continuation of genocides.  Not all has been depressing.  The opening up of borders has led to trade expansion and a rise in living standards for many in what was considered the Third World.  All these trends are open for discussion, which will be on our schedule.
