Flyer Catawba has initiated a number of educational and preventative steps to prepare for the potential threat of H1N1 on campus.

We have taken a number of steps to be proactive in our approach. We all need to be familiar with the available resources and share them with the campus community.

We have taken the following steps:

  • Placed an order free H1N1 vaccinations for all students (shipment expected in October)
  • Ordered 20 touch-free hand sanitizer stands to placed in common areas on campus (delivery expected by 9/14)
  • Assembled classroom kits for faculty members containing: Antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, masks, box of tissue, and H1N1 precautions (email about details forthcoming)
  • Created a postcard mailing to all day student parents outlining our campus efforts and identifying the website to monitor H1N1 on campus (to be mailed 9/10)
  • Created a postcard mailing to all School of Evening and Graduate students outlining our campus efforts and identifying the website to monitor H1N1 on campus (to be mailed 9/10)
  • Created a website to identify H1N1 precautions, notices and campus announcements www.catawba.edu/flu
  • Worked with the residence life staff to offer educational resources and programs in the residence halls
  • Working with Chartwells in the Cafeteria to take extra food handling and cleaning precautions
  • Working with the housekeeping staff to take extra cleaning precautions in the campus facilities
  • Offering general information sessions in the Tom Smith Auditorium for faculty 11:00am on 9/10 and staff 2:00pm on 9/10, general session for those unable to attend previous sessions 10:30am on 9/11
  • Continue to work with the college physicians to monitor and treat as necessary (we are in the final stages of re-securing a more limited physician service on campus)
  • Continue to work with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to include pandemic response and planning efforts

We will continue to make preparations for the H1N1 flu and the upcoming general flu season. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kathi Welborn or Candy Fesperman in Health Services.
