day 7: Easton, Md to Raleigh, NC
by Zach McRae '12
The previous night I and seven other guys were put up in a hotel. Our very generous host really just acted as a chauffeur to and from, and we were all very grateful for the freedom it provided. I can personally say that I was grateful for the continental breakfast. It was an obnoxiously early breakfast, but it was still breakfast.
The next part of the day was all driving, broken up by a Hardee's in Somewhere, Va. By the way, they now have these "little" thickburgers, which are more like what a healthy sized burger should be in this snob's opinion. I had one of those, it had some great smoky flavor — very clean and simple and not too much grease.
More hours of driving ensue, I'm kind of over it. We arrive at Edenton Street United Methodist Church to find our legs do still, in fact, work. The sound check / warm up was one of relief — it was to be our last evening concert!
Dinner was one of comfort — soup, salad, sammies. The company was of — ok I'm gonna stop that weird semi-poetic sequence. It felt right at first. Anyway, after dinner we all were joined by Catawba grads Meredith Fox and Jared Kenish, which also helped to raise spirits. Overall, this whole evening proved a great finish to our tour.
After a very satisfactory concert, I (along with five other guys) was placed with a completely awesome home-stay. To summarize: a nice couple with a HGTV kinda house with airplanes in the basement, hot tub, oversized chess set, cookies, comfy beds, all out in the boonies. Good night!
