Blog: Catawba Singers Take on Europe

Senior Corey Cellurale of Lewes, Del.
  1. What was your favorite experience on this trip?
“The most meaningful experience for me was singing in Mozart’s church.  Music is so important to me and to be in the church and town was unreal.  I could feel his presence and picture what life might have been like in that church and town during that time.”

  2. How has your perspective changed on this trip?
“My perspective opened on this trip.  I had no idea what other cultures were like being that I have only experienced my own.  Being in these countries made me want to learn a different language and actually become fluent.  I loved these cultures and want to better connect with the people and the best way to do that is to speak their language.”

  3. What have you learned through your experiences?
“On this trip, I learned about cultures and have seen major buildings and monuments in history.  Aside from those obvious things, I learned how to ride a subway/metro and to be comfortable with it.  Money management was also something important I think we all learned quickly.  In America, we don’t see many huge churches or cathedrals like the ones in Europe.  We forget how sacred those places are and being around them here put me in an emotional state I haven’t felt before.  Participating in the masses showed how sacred the church is and the old kinds of worship they still partake in.”
