Senior Michelle Chaffee of Holly Springs
- What was your favorite experience on this trip?
“One of the most meaningful experiences was staying in the home stays in Germany. We were welcomed into a local family and community in a different country where some people didn’t even speak English, but we were immediately treated like family. It was great to spend time with a family of another culture and learn about the many differences and similarities in our lives.”
- How has your perspective changed on this trip?
“When going to a different country, one can feel isolated, especially when there is a language barrier. Despite these cultural boundaries, we were welcomed in all the places to which we traveled. Although the many cultures of the world are noticeably diverse, people are still able to connect with one another. We achieved this connection through music, but it can occur in many ways.”
- What have you learned through your experiences?
- “This trip has taught me a lot about the power of music. Even though many people in our audiences did not understand the words we were singing, they were still able to connect with the music, and therefore with us. Music has the power to break down the many barriers that divide people and helps form lasting connections with people around the world.”
