Blog: Catawba Singers Take on Europe

Junior Kara Procell of Bel Air, Md.
  1. What was your favorite experience on this trip?
“Watching audiences’ reactions to our music every night was so meaningful to me.  Especially at performances that were impromptu – seeing the pleasantly surprised enthusiasm from so many people made me remember how much I love making music.”

  2. How has your perspective changed on this trip?
“I have learned that while we may not all speak the same language, everyone understands the language of music.  We sang a wide variety of songs in many languages, and most of our audiences didn’t understand half the words we spoke, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t understand what we were saying.”

  3. What have you learned through your experiences?
“I would never have known what an amazing country Germany was without coming here.  I never really learned a lot about Germany and its rich history in school, so I wasn’t sure what I was going to see.  Now I know that it is a beautiful, generous country that I definitely want to return to.”
