There's A Reason They're Hard To Come By

So exciting news, I don't know if you're aware, but Fall Break is this weekend... YESSSSS! While I know I need a break and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, I also get to see my best friend and I couldn't be happier.
I can't remember if I've mentioned who my best friend is, but she happens to also be my sister. People give me a funny look like I have three heads when I say that, but it is entirely true. I have been told that I tend to throw the term "best friend" around a lot and it took someone to literally tell me that to realize I do throw that phrase around a lot to the point where it doesn't mean a whole lot. I've been having writer's block recently, but being told this has inspired me. My life has not been the easiest (before you even think it, this is not a pity party blog post). I've had to fight to get to where I am, but I have not been fighting alone. My younger sister has been my rock throughout my whole life…. yes you read it correctly, she's my younger sister…. I like to think that we're twins because we basically have the same mind on certain things and do the whole finishing each other's sentences thing. When I think of the term "best friend" she is the first person I think of because no matter what we disagree on or what fight we happen to be in she has always and will always be there for me.
Funny enough while writing this post, I was watching one of my favorite movies Forrest Gump and one of the quotes he says in the movie about his friend Bubba is "Bubba was my best good friend. And even I know that ain't something you can find just around the corner." It's weird how movies can speak directly to a situation in your life.
There's a reason best friends are hard to come by. In reality you can have only one true best friend. In my opinion, the best way to define a best friend is someone who will never leave you, someone who knows you better than you know yourself and someone who knows all your deepest secrets and all your flaws and still decides to stay beside you no matter what.
This semester has thrown some fast balls my way and some days I've been wondering how I'm going to catch up and there are some days, especially today, where four hours seems like an eternity away. She and I have been best friends since the day she was born and I can see us now being those sisters sitting on the porch as old ladies talking about how amazing our lives are, but how amazing it is because we have always been best friends. I know this probably one of the cheesiest things I've said, but it's true. So I encourage you all to take a look at your friends and I mean a really good look. Who is your best friend? Who is that person who knows you better than anyone else in the world and still decides to stick around? Sure we have our certain group of friends, but there may come a time where they have to leave and go their own way and that's okay…. but it's that one person that at the end of the day, every day of your life, is the person who will always be right there to support you and be your best friend. I end this post with a shout out to my sister.
Georgi, you are my rock and I admire everything about you and sometimes wish I was more like you. There is no one on this earth who can take your place and I miss you more and more every day. Thank you for being my true best friend. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to have a video chat session with my girl and don't worry I'll keep you posted!
