Catawba Chiefs Kick Off Membership Drive

The Catawba Chiefs launched their 2005-2006 membership campaign June 1.  The goal for this year is 425 members, according to Bill Pieczynski, Chiefs Club coordinator.

“The Chiefs Club memberships support Catawba College’s intercollegiate competition,” Pieczynski said.  “Without the active participation of our Chiefs Club members, competitive sports for both our male and female athletes wouldn’t be at the levels they are today.  Last year, we had 416 members, and we hope to increase that number this year.”

Over 400 male and female students are involved in Catawba’s 17 varsity sports for men and women.  These participants include players, cheerleaders, coaching assistants and team managers.  Approximately 20 students are involved as student trainers.

The Catawba Athletic Department captured the 2004-2005 South Atlantic Conference Athletic Excellence Award for the first time in school history.  The SAC Athletic Excellence Award is presented annually to the member athletic department that earns the highest overall finish based on final regular season standings in each of the 14 conference-sponsored sports. Points are based on final tournament standings in the sports of men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s golf and women’s golf. 

With a $150 commitment, Chiefs Club members have the option to purchase two Catawba Season Sports Tickets ($45 per ticket) which include tickets to the Indians’ home football games, basketball games and home soccer matches.  Members are also able to use the college’s athletic facilities.
