Catawba College Community Music Recitals Scheduled

Music for Fun. Skills for Life.The Catawba College Community Music Program will host several spring semester performanceEvents for students enrolled in the program. These performances showcase the classes and private lessons taught through Community Music, including the new classes of the year, such as Class Piano for Senior Adults, Group Guitar, and Suzuki Violin classes.

An integrated recital will be held Sunday, May 1, at 1:30 p.m. in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus. Students will represent the piano studio of Jennifer Drake and voice studio of Mara Stewart, as well as the studio of Community Music's director, Erin Harper. Over 50 students will perform in a program of all ages and musical styles.

The Catawba Children's Choir and Youth Chorale will be performing on Sunday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m. in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. Directed by Randi Skaggs, the children's chorale will be singing a variety of styles, while the Youth Chorale, directed by Dean Orbison, will be singing such hits as "Wizard of Oz," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and a medley from "Les Miserables." An integrated recital of violin, guitar, piano, flute, and clarinet students will be performing at 3:30 p.m. in the same location. Students will represent the studios of Community Music instructors Dr. Dan Skidmore, David Edwards, Karen Franks, Jacob Hahn and Emily Schuttenberg.

Established in 1984, Catawba Community Music was designed to provide a variety of quality musical experiences, including private lessons, music classes, ensembles and performance opportunities to help students of all ages and abilities in Salisbury and the surrounding areas develop lifelong musical foundations and skills.
