Catawba Student Wins Metrolina Theatre Association Award

Once Upon this IslandCatawba College senior TyNia Brandon of Charlotte won a Metrolina Theatre Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in the college division for her role as Ti Moune in the college's production of "Once on this Island."

Brandon's nomination for one of 11 Metrolina Theatre Awards nominations that Catawba's Theatre Arts Department garnered from its 2012-2013 season. The 10th annual Awards Ceremony was held October 6 at the Omni Charlotte Hotel at 132 East Trade Street in downtown Charlotte.

Catawba College faculty members and alumni also received MTA awards for their work with area theatre companies in the Regional- North category.

Catawba Professor of Theatre Arts David Pulliam won awards for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Sound Design in the St. Thomas Players production of "Arcadia."   Catawba Professor Emerita of English Dr. Bethany Sinnott won an award for Outstanding Properties Design in the same production of "Arcadia."

1976 Catawba College alumnus Reid Leonard, resident director of the Piedmont Players Theatre, won an award for Outstanding Lighting Design in Piedmont Players' production of "The Color Purple."
