Enroll in MGT 2001 or MUS 2601, Wednesdays at 2:00pm, in Williams 017
$2750.00 - includes food, airfare, lodging and a day trip to Kamakura
This course is designed for students interested in Japanese Culture, Music, or Business - both to gain an appreciation for the rich history of Japan as well as develop an understanding of the current state of all three. Staying in a centrally located district of Tokyo at the Sakura Hostel, we will have a week to explore the city's main historic sites, learn from local businesses about the state of the Japanese economy, and also experience its vibrant modern musical and pop culture.
To prepare for our trip, we will meet once a week at 2:00pm on Wednesdays for a series of lectures and informational meetings with David Fish and Eric Hake. We will develop some key concepts regarding Japanese Music, Music Business, and the Business Culture of Japan.
This class will be of interest to any Catawba student who wants to experience Tokyo, students interested in any aspect of Japanese culture, to music students, and to business students. To make this course relevant and unique to each student participating in the course, each student will focus on their area of interest. After our trip, we will use the remainder of the course to prepare and give class presentations that address each student's special focus.
This trip is going to be FANTASTIC, and its structure will allow each student to focus on what they find fascinating about Japan - from Anime to Shintoism, we can discuss it all.
