Technology Information for New and Prospective Students

  • Information About Student Personal Computers - PDF
Includes information about hardware/software/printing requirements and recommendations, as well as information about technology purchasing discounts for Catawba College students, and network access. Catawba College supports secure wired and wireless network access for Windows  and Apple computers.

  • Information About Student Print/Copy/Scan - PDF
Students have access to Canon Multi-function Devices for black and white or color printing, copying, and scanning. These devices are installed in all campus computer labs, the library, and many other locations on campus. Students receive a $45 print/copy quota per semester. Students can print from campus-owned computers or from their personal computer or smartphone. Wireless personal printers are not supported on campus. Students with personal printers should connect to them via USB cable and turn off any broadcast network name.

  • Install Microsoft Office - Free to Catawba Students and Employees
The Microsoft Office Professional software suite (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more) is available to all Catawba College students and employees AT NO COST. Students and employees can install Office on up to 5 different devices, including PC, Mac, and most smartphones and tablets. Use the link below to learn how to install Office on your devices.
  • Network Access for Students: CatNetConnect
Once you are student and have been assigned a Catawba username and password, visit the link above for instructions on setting up your Windows or Apple computer to connect to the secure catuskynet2 wireless network or the wired network. Gaming consoles may also be registered to work on the wired network. Secure wired and wireless are available in most campus buildings, including the residence halls. Note that student-owned printers must be connected to student computing devices via USB cable. Wireless printers are not supported on the campus network.

  • Network Access for Campus Guests - PDF
Follow these instructions to connect to the low-security unencrypted guest wireless network, CatawbaGuest, which requires no special set up.
It does require a valid Catawba username and password. Although catuskynet2 is recommended, commuting students may elect to use CatawbaGuest. Resident students and employees must use catuskynet2.

  • How-To Guides
  • Fees and Charges - PDF
There is no charge for internet service. Network cables and a virus/spyware removal service are available for purchase. Other than for resolving network connectivity issues, the Information Technology department does not work on student computers, but can recommend local computer service companies that offer a Catawba College discount.

  • Cable TV Channels & Set-Up

Make sure the TV you bring to campus has an internal QAM tuner.
