Catawba students are invited to study in Europe over Spring Break, March 7-16, 2014!

Day 1: Friday 7th March 2014

  • Depart Charlotte, N.C.
  • 3.00PM: Arrive CHARLOTTE International Airport with one piece of luggage (NOT TO EXCEED 40 LBS), valid passport and an e-ticket number to present to the Lufthansa ticket agent. Note: Check luggage through to Rome (FCO)
  • 5.30PM: Depart  CHARLOTTE  International  Airport  (CLT)  on  Lufthansa  LH429  bound  for  Rome  Fiumincino  International  (FCO)  via  Munich  (MUC)

Day 2: Saturday 8th March 2014europe02.jpg
Arrival Rome

  • 8.20am Arrive Munich Franz Joseph International Airport Terminal 2 and transfer to Lufthansa LH1842 Non-Stop service to Rome!
  • 9.15am Depart Lufthansa LH 1842, Terminal 2, Non-Stop to Rome Fiumicino (FCO)!
  • 10.45am Arrive in Rome Fiumincino International Airport Terminal 3, where our “Meet & Greet” multilingual Harvard Sports Italian Tour Manager, Ms. Tamara Zucco, meets the group
  • After existing Customs and Immigration, all meet the private motor coach to load the luggage
  • Depart for an introductory orientation tour of the Eternal City
  • Your Tour Manager will point out various historical attractions, which will be revisited later on during your tour excursions and free time in Rome. Stops at Trevi’s Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and much more
  • Luncheon on your own (Not Included) under the direction of Ms. Zucco
  • Take time to change USD$ to Euros dollars at area ATMs
  • 2.00pm After lunch depart for Hotel Ripa and check-in
  • Refresh and settle in
  • Free time to explore Rome with your Tour Manager
  • 7.00pm Dinner (Not included)

Day 3: Sunday 9th March 2014
Comprehensive Tour of Rome, Catacombs & Colisseum, & Intro to Physio

  • 8.30am Breakfast at the Hotel (Included throughout the Tour)
  • 9.30am Your Tour Manager meets the Catawba Group and all transfer to Rome city center, where you’ll meet local guide to enjoy a formal guided tour of classical Rome
  • We suggest a visit to the Santa Maria Maggiore, a magnificent church often overlooked as a splendid tourist stop in Rome. Your local guide will point you in the correct direction
  • Afternoon guided tour of Christian Rome including the Catacombs and the Coliseum (admission included)
  • 5.00pm Return to Hotel to refresh
  • Dinner (Not Included) and free evening

Day 4: Monday 10th March 2014
Vatican & Lecture 1

  • 8.30am Breakfast at the Hotel
  • 9.30am Transfer to the Vatican Museum
  • 10.00am Guided tour of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel (included)
  • Lunch on your own (Not Included)
  • 1.30-3.30pm Depart for local Physio lecture at Catholic University


Day 5: Tuesday 11th March 2014
Transfer to the Netherlands & No. Germany & Intro to Player Sportʼs Management

  • 8.30am Breakfast at Hotel
  • After breakfast, free time in Rome for final shopping and sightseeing
  • 11.00am Check out of Hotel and load luggage under the motor coach to prepare for departure for Airport    
  • 11.30am Prompt departure for Ciampino International Airport (CIA) to connect with Ryan Airlines FR9615 to Eindhoven, the Netherlands
  • Lunch on your own (Not Included)
  • 2.30pm Depart Ciampino to Eindhoven, the Netherlands
  • 4.50pm Arrive Eindhoven, where your Dutch Tour Manager, Hendrick Femer, meets the group and all transfer to Valkenburg, a small Dutch village on the border with Germany
  • 6.15pm Check-in for a 5-nights stay at Hotel Walram
  • 7.30pm Dinner (Included) at Hotel Walram

Day 6: Wednesday 12th March 2014
Introduction to European Voetbal Physio at PSV Eindhoven

  • 7.00am Early Breakfast Buffet at the Hotel
  • 8.00am Depart for PSV Eindhoven, a Eridivisie Club team, to visit Physio Department
  • 9.30am-12.30pm Meet Mr. Egid Kissouw, head trainer of PSV Eindhoven. Trainer Kissouw has prepared an thorough          program for Catawba College attendees
  • 12.30pm Transfer back to Valkenburg
  • Lunch on the road to Valkenburg (Not Included)
  • 3.00pm Transfer to the Marlstone caves of Valkenburg. Enjoy a fantastic bonding experience, Adventure Day. Enter the underground labyrinth of former coal mine and marble tunnels where instructors will assist in a number of activities such as mountain biking
  • 5.30pm Return to the Hotel for buffet dinner (Included) and a free evening

Day 7: Thursday 13th March 2014
Visit to University of Maastricht, Holland, and Aachen, Germany

  • 7.30am Breakfast Buffet at the Hotel
  • 8.15am Transfer to Heerlen to visit Hogeschool Zuyd, a well known Physio Therapy Educational Institute
  • 9.00am-11.00am Visit College Hogeschool Zuyd with lecture
  • 11.00am Transfer to the city of Aachen (Germany)       
  • Colonized by the Romans 2000 years ago as a spa town, Aachen became the home of Charlemagne, the legendary 8th Century King of the Franks and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire
  • 12.00pm -1.00pm Enjoy a guided tour of the city including the Cathedral and City Hall which have dominated Aachen since the days of Charlemagne 1400 years ago
  • Lunch on your own (Not Included) Be sure to try the Printen, a nationally renowned confectionary similar to chocolate coated gingerbread
  • 3.30pm Just outside of Aachen, stop at the world famous Lindt Chocolate Factory outlet. Christmas shopping comes in March! If time permits, we may also visit the nearby famous cookie factory outlet
  • 5.00pm Transfer to Vaals for dinner at pre-selected restaurant and visit 3-countries point, the place where boundaries from Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands meet
  • 5.30pm Dinner at restaurant de Bokkerijder (Included)
  • 7.00pm Transfer back to Hotel

Day 8: Friday 14th March 2014!
Training Observations and Visit Brussels

  • 8.30am Breakfast buffet at the Hotel
  • 10.00am Depart for the American Cemetery at Margraten, an area donated to the American people as testament to their sacrifices during WWII
  • Depart for nearby Maastricht
  • 10.30am Depart for Maastricht for an introductory tour of this lovely cobblestone city by your Tour Manager, Mr. Femer      
  • Lunch on your own (Not Included)
  • 1.30pm Return to Southeastern Holland to the village of Kerkrade to visit the pro club AC Roda JC
  • 3.30pm Meeting with Head of Physio Department of pro club AC Roda JC
  • 5.30pm Transfer to Helmond to attend pro-match
  •  8.00pm Kick off match Helmond Sport vs. MVV Maastricht (Tickets Included)
  • Dinner at match (Included) by CASH Stipend
  • 10.00pm Return to Valkenburg

Day 9: Saturday 14th March 2014
Game Day

  • Breakfast Buffet at the Hotel
  • Dr. Hand and others will break the physio majors into teams to be involved in GAME DAY at PSV Eindhoven
  • Depart to meet Physio Head trainer at PSV Eindhoven Stadium
  • Lunch on your own (Not Included)
  • Activities before, during, and after todayʼs match will be overseen by designated teams of students Game: PSV vs. Eridivisie Opponent K/O TBA
  • After the game program continues
  • Depart for private farewell dinner at local castle with guest speaker (Included)
  • Return to Hotel for overnight and prepare for return to the USA

Day 10: Sunday 15th March 2014
Depart for USA

  • 5.30am Depart for Brussels to connect with flight to the USA The Hotel will provide you with a boxed breakfast
  • 7.00am Arrive Brussels and check all luggage through to Charlotte . 9.00am Depart Lufthansa flight LH2283 to Munich
  • 10.20am Arrive Munich and connect with Lufthansa LH428 Non-Stop Service to Charlotte
  • 11.25am Depart on Lufthansa LH428 Terminal 2 for Charlotte
  • 2.40pm Arrive Charlotte
