Upper–class students have the opportunity to help first-year students make a healthy transition to college life by working with a First-Year Seminar instructor in return for academic credit. An extension of the successful Alphas Program in which returning students assist Seminar instructors and first-year students throughout Orientation, the Fellows program provides valuable peer mentoring for first-year students. Each Fellow is assigned to a First-Year Seminar and attends all of its class sessions.
In addition, Fellows may help instructors organize field trips or co-curricular activities, assist with selected teaching strategies, lead class discussions, or tutor students in the class. Fellows attend an Orientation seminar and meet regularly with the Coordinator of First-Year Seminar Fellows to discuss matters of mutual concern and interest.
