Bethoumyvision.jpgCOVID-19 Information

Discover 2020 will look a little different due to COVID-19 but we still have fun times ahead. Almost everything we have prepared for 2020 has been planned with a virtual backup, so we still have camp planned for you! Here is what this means:

  • Make sure we have your correct mailing address! All of the swag and supplies you would have gotten at camp will come straight to your doorstep. This will include your t-shirt and other fun items, as well as the schedule for virtual Discover and all the supplies you will need for crafts, games, and activities. *Please register by June 30 to ensure you get your supplies on time!
  • We will meet on Zoom for morning sessions, small group discussions (think “cabin time”), evening worship, and theme and game nights. All of the information you need will be in your box and we’ll also send more detailed emails closer to the date.
  • Come with an open mind and heart. This is not the ideal scenario, and there are things we will miss being able to do this year. However, we have been preparing for you for months, so we hope you’ll give this new approach a try!
  • Tell your friends- now that the program will be virtual we’ll have space for additional campers. Participants can sign up as an individual or as a group on our website. For questions about registering a group please contact Shannon via email. Read More.

Apply to attend Discover in 2020

Discover is a program that challenges formative middle and high school youth with careful theological and moral reflection prior to college life. In the midst of theological reflection and activity, students will have the opportunity to:

  • discover God in new ways, especially as incarnational and interactive;

  • discover who they are as children of God;

  • discover how to live out their faith;

  • and discover what they are called to do vocationally.

Through a week-long session at Black Lake Retreat Center in Asheboro, participants will:

  • explore some of life's most important questions
  • grow in faith and sense of calling as we explore each person's sacred worth as a child of God.
  • learn and engage theological concepts alongside excellent college and graduate level faculty
  • participate in exciting field trips to explore creation, serve others, and grow in knowledge and faith
  • challenge themselves in activities such as water sports and zip lining
  • get to know college-aged Teaching Fellows who will lead them through the week's programming
  • grow in community with other participants

Discover Program at Catawba College
No Cost to Attend.

Discover is sponsored by a grant from the Lilly Endowment and so there is no cost for the students to attend. However, there is a $25 registration fee to hold your spot.  Please use our alternative registration form if the fee would be a hardship for your family. Participants are simply responsible for transportation to and from Black Lake Retreat Center.

For more details, please see our brochure below and feel free to contact us.
