general information

We are so very excited to have you as part of the Catawba family, and we look forward to getting to know you more by your attendance at one of the available Freshman Retreats. The Catawba College Freshman Retreat experience is a special time in your college career as you’ll be transitioning from a high school student to a Catawba College freshman. This is an experience you will not want to miss! We will be here to assist you every step of the way.

After you have registered for your Freshman Retreat, you will receive additional information via your Catawba email account so make sure you check it as the retreat date approaches.

On the last day of the JUNE retreat, we will have breakfast before everyone departs. If you do not drive to Black Lake, you should arrange for transportation to pick you up after breakfast concludes (7:30 a.m.).

On the last day of the AUGUST retreat, we will have breakfast and one final session before everyone departs. If you do not drive to Black Lake, you should arrange for transportation to pick you up after the final session concludes (10:00 a.m.).

Each retreat will offer a variety of activities including small group discussions, presentations, free time to socialize and get to know one another and other various fun activities. You will also get to meet some of the Catawba Faculty, Staff and Retreat Leadership Corps who will assist with the retreat experience.

packing

You should dress comfortably which means pack tee-shirts and shorts. Everything is very casual and comfortable. You may want to pack a bathing suit, water shoes, and comfortable walking shoes.

NOTE: You will need to bring your own linens and towels. We recommend a sleeping bag and a pillow for easy packing. If you opt to bring sheets and blankets, the beds at Black Lake are twin size beds. You are also responsible for your own personal toiletry items such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush etc.

Don’t forget to bring a writing utensil. Paper and other supplies will be provided to you. You will not need to bring any additional money to retreat unless you choose to purchase something when off-site (if applicable).

We hope that you are ready for this new and exciting chapter in your lives and we look forward to seeing you soon!
