The Biology Major at Catawba College
Catawba College Biology: Our Mission
The mission of the Biology Department at Catawba College is to provide an education in the biological sciences that best encompasses the important current content of the discipline, exemplifies the practice of science and emphasizes the consequences of living in a scientific age.
The Department of Biology at Catawba College offers majors leading to the B.A. and B.S. degrees and a minor in biology.
In small classes, you will build your confidence while you grow your knowledge. Collaborative partnerships with state and regional agencies like the LandTrust for Central N.C., the Catawba Lands Conservancy, and several laboratories at the nearby North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis allow Biology majors to put into practice what they learn in the classroom.
At Catawba, there are six full-time Biology faculty members and 50 majors. The Shuford Science Building is home to the Department of Biology. Facilities include: light and electron microscopes, computer laboratory, visible and infrared imaging systems, geographic information systems, herbarium, greenhouse, molecular genetics lab, and the adjacent 189-acre Catawba College Ecological Preserve.
