High school students engaging with science while backpacking through the wilderness.
GALS is a free summer science program for high school students to engage with science while backpacking through the wilderness. GALS was created to increase hands-on science opportunities for students who identify as female or gender nonconforming, students of color, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and other groups underrepresented in the fields of STEM.

Paid Internship Opportunity
Catawba students have an exciting opportunity for a paid internship as a trip leader with GALS! Application review for team leaders will begin on February 29th and will remain open until the positions are filled. We encourage you to apply by February 29th for priority in the hiring process. The first round of interviews will take place the week of March 2. We anticipate the first round of hiring decisions to be made by March 15th.
You must identify as female or gender non-conforming and have a valid driver's license to be a trip leader. We will be hiring two types of leaders: lead and support. Both leaders will share all teaching responsibilities during the GALS trip. To be a lead, you must be over 21 and have wilderness leadership experience.
