What Makes Us Unique?

  1. Believing strongly that residence and travel in situ are critical for the development of advanced fluency, the department requires a minimum of 6 hours credit from an approved foreign institution. Students have broad latitude and considerable assistance in program selection.

  2. While literature and culture courses are required, the major program focuses principally on development of practical language skills for use in commerce, social service, law enforcement, and teaching.

  3. Advanced class sizes are always small and afford maximum student-faculty interaction.
  4. Relatively small size of major (33 semester hours) facilitates “double major” possibilities.
  5. The language laboratory offers live 24-hour satellite feed in French, German, Spanish, and several other languages.

  6. The department offers a supportive and family-like environment to its majors.
