In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Hake is Secretary to The Association for Evolutionary Economics (AFEE), an international organization of economists and other social scientists devoted to analysis of economics as evolving, socially constructed and politically governed systems. AFEE publishes the Journal of Economic Issues (JEI).

Dr. Slate teaches Microeconomics, Business Statistics, Environmental Economics and International Economics. His research interests include economic history and business economics, with a particular interest in North Carolina's economic history. He is a member of the the Academy of Economics and Finance, the American Economic Association, the Association For Evolutionary Economics, and the National Association of Business Economics. He is published in the Business Education Innovation Journal as well as the Journal of Virtual Environments.
