Instructor of Music: (Percussion)
Alan Sledge teaches applied percussion at Catawba College. He earned his degree in Music Education from Winthrop University, studying percussion with Michael Williams and Christopher Dean. Sledge started his teaching career at Smith Middle School and Olympic High School in Charlotte. He also taught as percussion specialist with the schools in Fort Mill, S.C. and the Mooresville Graded School District.
As a percussionist Sledge toured with Avant Garde Drum and Bugle Corp (DCI), served as instructor/clinician for numerous high school marching bands, performed in theatre pit orchestras and as a timpanist in church settings. As an educator he was active with the South Central Band Director’s Association and the recipient of the ASBDA Stanbury Award for the North Carolina Junior High Division.
Sledge has been the Director of Music Ministries at First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville conducting the choirs and handbell ensembles, in addition to lead and play keyboards in the contemporary First Praise Band.
