FAQs

  1. What do I need to do before applying for admission to the Pre-Licensure BSN program?
    You must apply for admission to Catawba College and be accepted.

  2. I have been accepted to Catawba College.  Does that indicate a guaranteed admission to the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    No. The Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program has a competitive admission process. During the spring, the student submits a completed application to the BSN program.

  3. What is the necessary GPA for admission to the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    The minimum required GPA is 2.5.  However, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is recommended.  A letter grade of “C” or better is required for all science courses.

  4. What courses must I have completed in order to apply for admission to the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    Please see the website for a list of prerequisites. 

  5. Do I have to be a CNA to apply for admission to the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    No.  Being a CNA is good preparation, but is not a requirement.

  6. When do I apply for admission to the Pre- Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    Students are eligible to apply to the major once all admissions criteria has been met.  This typically happens in the spring semester of a student’s sophomore year.

  7. Is there a fee associated with the nursing application process?
    Yes.   A $50 non-refundable fee is required.  This fee should be paid in the Business Office.  An official receipt is required with the submission of the nursing application by the designated deadline.

  8. How often are students admitted into the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program?
    Admission occurs once yearly in the spring semester.

  9. If I do not make the minimum score on the TEAS test, will I still be eligible to apply to the program?
    Yes.  You are still eligible to apply.  Students with a TEAS score slightly below the proficient level and a GPA above 3.0 may be eligible for admission to the program.

  10. If I apply to the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program and don’t get in, does the College provide additional options?
    Catawba College has a variety of exceptional programs to consider as alternative possibilities to the nursing major. Please explore the College’s website for additional options.   

  11. Do I have to complete all curriculum pre-requisites before applying to the program? 
    Provisional admission may be granted if a student is completing curriculum pre-requisites in the term (spring semester) prior to matriculation into the Pre-Licensure BSN Degree Program.
