Special Events
Danceworks
As the culminating project for Catawba’s Dance Ensemble class, Catawba Theatre presents an evening of dance based on their work for the semester. One of the special aspects of Catawba’s Dance Ensemble is the opportunity it presents for young choreographers to stretch their wings under structured guidance and with a ready-made company of dancers of all different skill levels. Look for more details about the choreographers, dancers, and the upcoming dates in the Theatre Arts event calendar!
Annual One Acts Festival
Each spring, Catawba College Theatre Arts students present a series of One Acts that serve both as a part of the Theatre Arts' regular season and the culmination of the Department's Directing 2 studio class.

Blue Masque Hall of Fame
Each fall we host the Blue Masque Hall of Fame ceremony and Reception recognizing and perpetuating the noteworthy theatre tradition by honoring and memorializing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to this tradition.
This year’s celebration will be on Friday, November 6 in Hedrick Little Theatre and will honor a number new inductees as well as pay tribute to honorees from past years. We are truly looking forward to what should prove to be a magical and memorable evening!
Senior Capstone Presentations
As part of our Senior Capstone experience, all seniors are required to research and write about some aspect of their process as theatre artists. The culmination of these varied and engaging papers is a public presentation.
Visiting Artists
Catawba College Theatre Arts brings in a variety of professional performers, directors, designers, agents, playwrights, and Theatre Companies to hold workshops for our students. Past highlights include:
-
Catawba Theatre Arts, through generous sponsorship, was honored to host legendary director and choreographer VINCENT PATERSON in 2017. Well known for his work on Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour and Michael Jackson’s Bad tour, among numerous other award-winning films and Broadway productions, Mr. Paterson hosted master classes and an “Inside the Choreographer's Studio” session for both students and community members.
-
Alumnus Amanda Lederer (’10) returned to Catawba with the NY-based company STRANGEMEN AND CO. for which she serves as actor, Executive Producer, and Outreach Director. In 2017, Strangemen came to Catawba for a two-day intensive masterclass with an open forum, in addition to student masterclasses.
