Many Catawba College Theatre Arts students study abroad with professional theatre companies and programs.
Students have taken advantage of Study Abroad opportunities in the UK and Italy, and have have participated in international experiences, including artistic residencies in places like Costa Rica, Greece, Germany, Japan, and Estonia.
professional development scholarships
The Young Theatre Artist Professional Development Scholarships are awarded to four students each academic year. The scholarships may be used for travel expenses, conference registration or attendance, professional development materials, or audition expenses.
Internship at the Williamstown Theatre Festival
Our students regularly participate in internships with professional theatre companies. Most recently, current students and graduates have held successful summer and year-long internships at The Williamstown Theatre Festival, Interlochen Center for the Arts, The American Shakespeare Center and a wide variety of other places from coast to coast.
Catawba Theatre Arts is also extremely proud to announce it newest exclusive Internship for rising juniors and seniors: CataLST. As part of a partnership with Lee Street theatre, CataLST is a semester-long internship that provides unique professional experiences and leadership opportunities in production and performance to exceptional Catawba students.
Each semester, Catawba College Theatre Arts brings in a variety of professionalperformers, directors, designers, agents, playwrights, and Theatre Companies to hold workshops for our students. Many of these are Catawba Alums who are thrilled at the opportunity to give back to their Alma Mater. Recent guest artists have included Creatively Independent (Theatre Company), Mike Wiley (actor and playwright), Barbara Pitts McAdam (Tectonic Theatre Workshop), and Richard Steinert (Ballet Pensacola). Recent workshops have included “Inside the Designer’s Studio” with TA alums Sam Brooks and Jerry Archer, a belt-singing workshop with Dr. Marianne Kyle (U of Southern Mississippi), and “Preparing for your Professional Career” with alumnus, Anthony Johnson.
Honors Students in Germany
Catawba Theatre Arts is proud of its significant student participation in the College Honors Program. Partaking in a course of study that includes interdisciplinary, provocative, and intellectually demanding courses, Catawba Theatre Arts Honors students join their peers in contributing to a rich community of curious and engaged learners. Theatre Arts faculty also regularly teach in the Honors Program.
