Requesting a Tutor
Students who would like to receive the assistance of a tutor may apply by completing the Tutor Request form and Tutoring Contract. All tutoring assignments are made by the Tutoring Coordinator. The Tutor Request form must be completed, signed and returned to the Tutoring Coordinator before a tutor can be assigned. All tutoring will be conducted in the library unless otherwise noted.
Written notification of a tutoring assignment is sent to both the tutor and the tutee via e-mail.
Tutees receive this service free of charge.
Becoming a Tutor
In order to be a tutor, a student must show proficiency in the course with a grade of A or B for the course in which tutoring is needed. Students who would like to serve as a tutor may apply by completing the Become a Tutor form. Once the student is approved, the student then completes the appropriate paperwork.
Being a tutor means that students need to have good interpersonal and communication skills, maintain confidentiality, work well with peers and faculty, and be prompt for sessions and completing all required paperwork. Tutors are expected to be available for at least three tutoring sessions per week for tutoring throughout the semester. Tutoring can range from one-on-one to small group sessions.
Tutors are expected to to complete employement forms, time-cards and tutoring reports. The pay rate is North Carolina minimum wage.
