Financial Aid for the Summer Session
Financial Aid may be available to students who want to enroll in summer courses. A student’s eligibility for summer Financial Aid depends on the summer Cost of Attendance based on a student’s choice in course load and a student’s Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the current academic year FAFSA. Summer Financial Aid may include Federal need-based grants as well as student loans.
The summer Cost of Attendance is not what a student will be billed for the summer courses selected but an estimate of expenses a student may have to participate in summer school. This estimate will include tuition and books and may include living expenses, transportation, and other personal expenses. Generally, a student may have more Financial Aid available as the course load increases due to the increase in tuition costs for additional courses. The summer Cost of Attendance is also the maximum amount of Financial Aid a student could qualify for based on their enrollment in summer courses.
If a student has questions about summer Financial Aid, the student should, first, meet with their academic advisor to see what classes would be beneficial to take during the summer so they know how many hours they might be enrolled in. Then, the student should contact the Financial Aid Office before enrolling in summer courses to confirm a valid current academic year FAFSA is on file in order to see what Financial Aid might be available based on that course load and the EFC from the FAFSA.
If the course a student needs is not offered at Catawba, please see information about the College Consortium. Courses taken through the College Consortium may transfer in with the grade and count for Financial Aid eligibility, which is not the case for courses taken at any college not in the College Consortium.
