AP & IB Credit

Advanced Placement Examinations

Students who receive a score of three, four or five on Advanced Placement (AP) tests administered by the College Entrance Examination Board may receive both credit and advanced placement at Catawba College.

Students receiving a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Examinations will have an “S” grade recorded for an appropriate course on their permanent records. The course will be shown on the transcript as credit received but will not be used in calculating the grade point average.

* If a student has taken both AP courses in Calculus, the second one will be awarded as MATH 1802.

* No more than 6 hours of credit will be awarded for English.

 


International Baccalaureate Certificate

Catawba College recognizes IB level work in the admissions process and will grant credit for examination scores of 4 or better on Higher level courses only. IB Certificate recipients will receive one course credit (3 semester hours) for each Higher level score of 4 or better. No credit is given for Subsidiary level examinations. The granting of credit for IB work is equated to the granting of credit for Advanced Placement. No credit will be given for English Composition.
