We had another special gift from a former Catawba Basketball player for our Chiefs Club in recognition of two of teammates at Catawba - Tom Roberts ’63 and Al Johnson ’64.

Former Catawba Women’s Basketball player Danyel Locklear Jolicoeur ’04 just helped us get one step closer to our goal of 750 members. Danyel was inducted into the Catawba Sports Hall of Fame in 2017 and the SAC Hall of Fame in 2019.

Coe Brier did not play baseball at Catawba. He played at Clemson, but did play a lot of games in Newman Park for the Rowan County American Legion team. He still has the record for career home runs for the Rowan County American Legion team with 43. He also just helped us get another step closer to our goal of 750 members. Thanks, Coe!

Special thanks goes out to Haney Honeycutt. Haney never misses a morning walk with his dogs around the Catawba practice fields, a home Catawba Football game, or a home Catawba Softball doubleheader. A big supporter of Tailgate America, Haney has a special connection with the Catawba Softball team. This year, he purchased eight Chiefs Club memberships for the players who have graduated the past two years.  This is a very generous gift and a very thoughtful way to keep those eight former players connected and involved. Thank you, Haney Honeycutt.

Although it may have not seemed like a very important project, we made a big difference in the area around the football field, baseball field, and the fieldhouse. First impressions are very important. For a lot of people at Opening Convocation on August 17th, that will be their first impression of Catawba Athletics.

We recently had help from a few of our Chiefs Club Board, Catawba Alumni, supporters of Catawba Athletics, and even one current student-athlete. Bushhog America II is back in business - two projects down and many more to take care of to help out.

Some of the trees were taken down from behind Kirkland Field to help keep the turf clear from all the gumballs that typically fall in this area.  The largest tree was left to provide shade for the daycare.

Steel beams were added to mount the new videoboard/scoreboard.

Athletic Projects & Updates

The Johnson Tennis Center project is moving along. Landscape rocks are being installed around courts #1 and #2 to help with the drainage.
