“For decades Jimmy Lewis has helped tell the stories of Catawba Athletics, keeping fans updated about our teams and celebrating their many successes over the years. I’m truly grateful for Jimmy’s commitment to his alma mater and his years of remarkable service to our student-athletes. I hope all the members of the Chiefs Club with join me is expressing thanks to Jimmy!” - Dr. David P. Nelson – Catawba College President
“Jimmy had been a very good friend for a long time. Just think how many games and Catawba student-athletes he has covered for Catawba Athletics for almost 40 years. Jimmy has also been a very loyal supporter of our Catawba Chiefs Club. I think it is safe to say that Jimmy has traveled all over the state, country, and world with Catawba Athletics. I hope he will continue to attend our home games and special events for Catawba Athletics” - Jeff Childress, Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Development
“It just will not be the same without Jimmy Lewis. Jimmy worked tirelessly night and day to provide game coverage and updated statistics for Catawba’s athletic events. Jimmy is from the “True Catawba Mentality”-where you work diligently for the betterment of Catawba without the expectation of glorification. Jimmy was a grinder! He is a great friend and will be surely missed.”
- Jim Gantt ’89, Catawba Head Baseball Coach
“Jim Lewis possesses so many outstanding attributes. When our teams played Catawba, we knew he would handle everything in the media relations realm. More importantly, we knew Jim would treat everyone who crossed his path with respect. Jim is always happy…and his happiness shows when he encounters others. I count the fact that I know Jim Lewis as one of my biggest blessings.” - David Sherwood, Director of Public Relations & Student-Athlete Recognition Wingate University Athletics
“Jimmy Lewis has served Catawba Athletics with all of his heart and soul. Jimmy was true to Catawba and did an unbelievable job, and most of the time he was a “one man” show. He was often the first one to arrive on game site and was for sure, the last one to leave follow the thousands of games and matches he covered. Jimmy service to the school is second to none.” - Coach Jim Baker ’78, Former Catawba Men’s Basketball player, former Head Coach, and 2021 Catawba Sports Hall of Fame inductee
“Jimmy Lewis has been an important part of Catawba’s athletic program for forty years. During that time he has done an outstanding job as our SID. He was always willing to help in any way possible to help our golf program. All the athletic teams at Catawba will greatly miss him and his efforts to make Catawba athletics special. “ - Coach Sam Gealy, former Catawba Men’s and Women’s Head Golf Coach
“Jim Lewis’s contributions to Catawba College first as a student, then followed by a long tenured career cannot be measured. Jim was one of the first staff members I met on my first day of work many years ago and, while sad to know that he is stepping away from his Sports Information duties, I am happy to know that his association with and support of Catawba Athletics will always be very strong. It will be challenging to find his replacement in Sports Information due to his breadth of knowledge in the industry. I, and I know I speak for others on staff, will miss the professional relationship with Jim but look forward to continued connection through various interactions associated with Catawba Athletics which he has been so passionate about over the numerous years.” - Craig Turnbull, Interim Director of Athletics
