Catawba Women’s Soccer 30th Year Celebration
We are celebrating 30 years of Catawba Women’s Soccer. Since fielding its first team in 1990, Catawba has won three South Atlantic Conference titles, six SAC Tournament Championships, a NCAA regional championship and have made seven appearances in the NCAA post-season tournament.
Catawba has been ranked in the national NCAA poll over 12 different seasons and earned its highest ranking of #7 in the nation in 1998.
Eight times, Catawba has produced the SAC Player of the Year with nine league Freshman of the Year. A dozen players have earned All-America honors with four Academic All-Americans.
Catawba Men’s Soccer 1990 & 1991 Championship Team Reunions:
Former players came back from Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, and Texas.
We welcomed back two special Catawba Men’s Soccer teams, the 1990 and 1991 squads, who excelled 30 years ago. Both teams went undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference, won NAIA District 26 titles and earned a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
The 1990 team, led by All-Americans Gerard Gregoire and Mick Wakeman, went 21-6-1, setting a school record for wins in a season. In addition to the conference and district titles, the 1990 team won the first-ever South Atlantic Conference tournament.
The 1991 team was led by All-Americans Craig Morton and Mick Wakeman. They posted a record of 20-5. The team was the most prolific scoring team in school history, notching 88 goals over those 25 matches, while allowing just 20.
