Help us feed families for Thanksgiving!
2015 marks the 12th anniversary of our Thanksgiving Duck Draw project. Over the past 11 years we have provided over 1,480 families with Thanksgiving meals. This year we hope to sponsor an additional 150 families and reach the 1,630 families fed mark.
Once again the Residence Life staff will be collecting money for the annual Thanksgiving dinner "Duck Draw." The Residence Life staff will be collecting $1 donations to sponsor a duck between September 18th and November 13th at 5pm.
On November 17th, 2015 starting at 11:00 am, President Lewis will draw a number of ducks randomly in Leonard Lounge of the Cannon Student Center. Mark your calendars now, as this is an event you don't want to miss! The person sponsoring the ducks drawn will receive a prize. Prizes will include donated gifts such as gift certificates from local restaurants. As you will remember, our local merchants have been extremely generous and have consistently provided more than 150 prizes each year.
Resident Assistants will be visiting offices, residence halls, and community members to collect donations. To sponsor a duck, stop by a table set up inside the Cannon Student Center at the lunch times during the next few weeks. Or, stop by the Student Affairs Office and ask to sponsor a duck. You will also see various other events Residence Life staff is initiating to help generate enough money to provide Thanksgiving dinners for those in our community. Our kickoff event to support this cause will be to tape me to a wall on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 starting at 11:00am just outside the Student Center. The cost is $1 for a foot of duct tape.
Please consider sponsoring a duck or participating in one of our events to help make our 12th Thanksgiving dinner drive as successful as each of the previous years.
Through last year's efforts and your generosity, Residence Life was able to provide Thanksgiving dinners for approximately 150 local families. The dinners consisted of a 10-12 lb turkey, baking pan, rice, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, stuffing mix and box of brownie mix. We worked with local school agencies to find families that need assistance during the holiday.
If you have any questions, want to sponsor a duck or know of a family that may be in need of assistance for a meal, please contact Student Affairs at ext. 4410.
