Hey guys, I am Nicole Hunt and welcome to my first ever Blog/Vlog! This semester, I have an awesome opportunity to intern with the Public Relations Department here at Catawba College. During the next couple of months, I will be doing weekly student-perspectives posts on life at Catawba. These will include information on campus events, clubs, tours, and much more, and I figured I should tell you all a little bit about myself if you’re going to follow along with me on this journey.

For those of you who are reading this who do not know who I am, let me start by telling you about myself. I am a current junior majoring in Communication with a plan to minor in Business Administration. With this degree, I want to go into public relations and I hope to someday make my way into a big corporation.

I was born and raised in Greensboro, N.C. I ended up attending a little high school in the middle of nowhere named Southeast Guilford. In that school, you could say something short of a miracle happened to me. College was not really an option I was considering. I was mediocre at the sports I played, and I was not paying attention in class. My mindset all changed when I started playing lacrosse my freshman year. Let’s just say, it changed my life.

Lacrosse has become the biggest passion in my life. In the beginning, I was not good at all, and it seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I would never get better. Two weeks into my first season, I thought I had made up my mind. I was going to quit before practice and never look back… Well, I couldn’t work up the nerve that day and surprisingly enough, I scored my first ever goal. It was a turning point in my mind and I fell in love with the game that day. After that day, I became dedicated to the sport. I practiced every day, went to every clinic, and worked my butt off to become the best I could be. I began playing on a club team the following summer which allowed me once in a lifetime opportunities.

Throughout this journey into lacrosse, I met some very amazing mentors as well as friends. My high school coaches and club coaches were some of the greatest role models I could have asked for growing up. They pushed me to my fullest potential on and off the field. They are part of the reason why I am here at Catawba because they opened my eyes to what I could achieve if I set my mind to it.They believed in me when no one else did and put thoughts of growth inside my head. Without this sport, I would not be where I am today. Now, I am a part of the Women’s Lacrosse team at Catawba. I play midfield and every day I am grateful for everything this sport has brought me.

Outside of lacrosse, some of my hobbies include writing, reading, and nature walks. It’s the joy of being able to escape reality and enter my own world that really pulls me in. It’s the ability to get away when it feels as if the world is too much sometimes. These things allow me peace of mind and freedom.

So, that is a little bit about who I am and what I enjoy doing. Throughout the course of this semester, I hope you all will continue to tune in to this weekly Blog/Vlog I have going on! If you come back next week, I bet your taste buds will be watering by the end of the post!
