(*cue Halloween movie music) MUAH HA HA HA Happy Halloween all you goblins and ghouls! ... okay so yeah, have some fun dressing up like a crazy person and eat a ton of candy!
I love this holiday, it's a big family favorite in my household! My mother, my sister and I always try to come up with costumes that coincide with each other and we rock it out for Halloween! Another reason for my love of Halloween is because it is also my favorite person's birthday! How many people can say that their mom's birthday is the same day as Halloween?
Okay probably a lot, but it's a big deal at my house. Seriously people, we start thinking of the next year's costumes the day after Halloween is over. My friends are always amazed by my costume because my mom has made almost every costume I've ever worn ... I know, awesome right? My sister and I always try to make our mom's birthday the best every year because she really is the best mom in the world. "How do you know? You don't know my mom!'
Okay, cool your jets sparky this is just my personal opinion ... fact... ANYWAY it's true. My mom is kind of like a superhero. Ever since I can remember, that woman has gotten up, gone to work at a full time job with 2 kids and still managed to form an amazing relationship with them. Not to mention she did it all by herself as a single mother which is very hard to do. Before the thought of kids, my mom wanted to go off and do what she loves most which is acting ... sound familiar? Yeah I'm definitely her kid ... she got married young and really didn't want kids at first. She didn't really get to go off to California or NYC and make it big like she wanted, but she made it big in Virginia on September 24, 1992 when she landed her hardest and most amazing role yet…my mom. Then had my sister about almost 4 years later and right then we became the Three Musketeers, Three Amigos whatever you want to call it. She became a single mother when I was 5 and that took a hit not just on our family, but on her. So naturally she went to her room, cried for days and completely forgot all other responsibilities? If you thought that, you're dead wrong. She got up and decided that since one parent wasn't there she needed to fill those shoes for her two little girls. She wished she could be a stay-at-home mom, but that wouldn't have worked out too well. She sacrificed her dreams to take care of me and my sister.
The only reason I am at college doing what I love to do is because of my mom and the benefits of her job. She is one of the most hardworking people I know and I like to think I get a lot of my work ethic from her. She always told me that life was not fair and that I will fall down, but I knew she was always there to help me get back on my feet with her endless support and love. She is my role model and my hero because she did something that not a lot of people can do successfully which was look at life in the face and say "Nice try but I'm not giving up."
Our family's phrase is "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Well, mom you are living proof of that statement and I am extremely proud to call you my mom and my best friend. I encourage all of you to let your mom know how much you appreciate and love her. All she wants is to see you happy and to succeed in life. Happy birthday mom, I love you and thank you for everything you do and have done for me. You deserve every ounce of happiness!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to celebrate her birthday with some candy and rehearsal and don't worry I'll keep you posted!
