2005 Catawba Music Education Alumna Plays with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
February 15, 2018
February 2, 2018 was a special day for Catawba College alumna Carolyn Brannon Kramkowski ’05, director of instrumental music at Shaw Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kramkowski, was selected for a special opportunity to perform with musicians of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in a concert entitled EXTRA CREDIT On Stage at Powell. The concert, which was free and open to the public, allowed her and other selected music educators to rehearse and perform a concert side by side with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians under the direction of Resident Conductor Gemma New. Approximately 2,000 people attended.
The concert was billed as “an opportunity to celebrate the educators who inspire the effort required by their students to learn to play an instrument and perform successfully in an ensemble.” Kramkowski simply shared that “It was so cool!” after “a tough school year with a lot of turmoil that is reflecting what is going on in St. Louis.”
Kramkowski, a music education major at Catawba, earned her Master of Music Education from Murray State in Murray, Ky. She has worked continuously since her graduation from Murray State with at-risk students in the greater St. Louis area. Married to husband Dave, the two are parents of three-year-old daughter Natalie.
