February 28, 2022

Category: Catawba Impact, Faculty, Staff

Catawba College plans to raise their minimum wage to $15 an hour for all College non-student staff effective March 1. This is the second increase to the College’s minimum wage in the last six months.

This measure is part of an ongoing effort to promote a thriving workplace at the College.

“The move to $15 an hour minimum wage is the right thing to do,” said Catawba College Vice President for Business and Finance, Lauren Cox. “Our employees are the backbone of our operations and make so many vital contributions to our College. This has been especially evident throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The College has plans to undertake a comprehensive study of total compensation which includes a review of salaries, leave, retirement, health insurance, and other employee benefits. They will also continue to study increases in base hourly compensation and other facets of total compensation over the coming months.

Catawba also resumed the employer retirement contribution that was previously decreased. The percentage of the employer match is determined by the employee’s years of service.

“We want people to want to work at Catawba College,” stated Catawba President David P. Nelson. “This step is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication exemplified by our employees and our continued commitment to invest in our people.”
