Catawba College Move-in Day Has Evolved to Catawba Move-in Month
August 20, 2018
Instead of one official move-in day at Catawba College, there have been several that have occurred and continue to occur during the month of August. In fact, 473 early arrivals had already occupied their residence hall rooms on campus prior to the last freshmen move-in day on Saturday, August 18.
The first early arrivals were 31 Resident Assistants who returned to campus August 1 to begin a week of training before other students began to arrive.
On August 6, 129 athletic training students, football and volleyball players settled in to their campus residences. A week later, on August 13, 154 students, members of the men’s and women’s soccer teams, cross-country, cheerleaders, band, athletic training, and Alpha Core members, upper class students who will assist with first-year seminar groups with Orientation activities, returned.
On August 15, 116 students, including members of the developmental women’s soccer team and freshmen prepared to participate in a required freshmen retreat arrived. On August 16, 17 additional Alphas, arrived.
The arrival of some international students was also peppered into the month-long, move-in mix.
The campus was more than halfway full of its resident students, before the remaining freshman moved in on August 18 to begin participation in Orientation activities. Upper class students will return Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21, before the first day of classes begins on Wednesday, August 22.
Officials in the Office of Student Affairs say 775 students are expected to be housed on campus this fall, although final enrollment and occupancy numbers will not be final until after the last day of drop/add.
Catawba’s Opening Convocation, which marks the advent of the institution’s 168th academic year, is slated August 21.
