Catawba College Volunteers Participate in Food Packing Party

In early September prior to a Campus Worship service, a group of nearly 20 Catawba College community members gathered together for a Food Packing Party to benefit the food insecure in Rowan County. The group that included students, faculty, staff, athletics, and trustees who came together as volunteers at Rowan Helping Ministries, in partnership with Food for Though.
The Catawba group packed nine shopping carts worth of bags to be distributed to individuals throughout the county. According to a 2016 State of the County Health Report produced by the Rowan County Health Department, 17 percent of the county’s population have food insecurity, while 29% of Rowan County children live in poverty.
Catawba College’s participation in the Food Packing Party was coordinated by the on-campus office of Volunteer Catawba. Catawba alumnus Johnathon Boles ‘16 directs Volunteer Catawba.
