Catawba College's Young Artist in Residence Is Finalist in International Songwriting Competition
February 7, 2007
One of Catawba College's 2006 graduates, who was the first place winner of the BMI Foundation's 9th Annual John Lennon Scholarship Awards, is a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition (ISC).
Dennis Reed of Charlotte, who majored in music business at Catawba and now serves as Catawba's Young Artist in Residence for the 2006-2007 academic year, is one of the top 10 finalists in the gospel category of the International Songwriting Competition.
Reed entered his song, "Out of Control," his winning first place song in the BMI Foundation's 9th Annual John Lennon Scholarship Awards competition in the ISC. The ISC drew over 15,000 entries from 88 countries worldwide, representing all genres of contemporary music. The finalists' songs are currently under review by the ISC judges and winners will be announced in March.;
All ISC finalists' songs will be on ISC website for the entire month of February as part of The Peoples' Voice, an online contest where the public can listen to and vote for their favorite song. This contest is in addition to, and completely separate from, the ISC regular winners which will be announced in March 2007.;
According to Dr. David Fish, associate professor of music at Catawba, supporters of Reed have a unique opportunity in the online contest to cast their votes for Reed's entry and increase his chances of winning The People's Voice award.
