Catawba Pride Day Set for April 27
March 6, 2013Pride Marching Band to be able to interact.
Music for the 2013 Pride Marching Band halftime show will be available for preview. Beginning at 1 p.m. in the Williams Music Building, new students will have an opportunity to audition for the Pride – its wind, percussion and color guard units – as well as for music department scholarships. New and returning students will be able to read over the music for the halftime show between 1 and 5:00 p.m., and at 5:00 p.m., all will enjoy a pizza dinner.
"This is the first time that we've organized our day in this way," explained Dr. Stephen Etters, associate professor of Music Education and director and coordinator of instrumental music at Catawba. "We've had clinics before, but we never have had a chance to get returning and new students together on one day. This will get everyone excited and energized about the fall. It will also help us as administrators because we will know what instruments will be playing in the fall."
New students will have a chance to meet and interact with returning students and learn more about the Pride Camp that is scheduled August 12-16, the week before Catawba's orientation occurs August 17-20.
The April 27 Pride Day registration form is available online. Or, for more information, e-mail Dr. Etters at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-800-CATAWBA (ext. 4476). Jay Meachum, Director of the PRIDE Marching Band, and Peter Zlotnick, Director of the PRIDE Drumline are responsible for the instruction, management, and musical programming for the PRIDE. Both of these highly respected professional performers/music educators have served as adjunct teaching faculty at Catawba since 2008.
