Catawba stands as ONE
November 29, 2007
Catawba students, staff and faculty banded together this week to take part in ONE.org's ONE Campus Challenge. Over 100 Catawbans have participated in the challenge this week, rocketing Catawba from 326th place to 40th in the nation in less than 72 hours. If the standings hold through the end of the week, it will make Catawba eligible to have a student representative sent by ONE.org to a three-day Power 100 Summit on activism and fighting poverty in Washington D.C. in the spring.
Actions taken this week included calling presidential candidates to ask that they go on record with their plans to fight global poverty, hunger and disease, creating a ONE Catawba facebook group, and organizing a ONE Catawba student organization. "The response has been fantastic," says Keith Engwall, faculty sponsor of ONE Catawba, "we haven't even had our first meeting and I've already been approached by members of Volunteer Catawba to discuss how the two organizations could coordinate efforts. This is one of the aspects of Catawba College that I love. The people here really care and get involved."
