Catawba Students Attend 2017 Metrolina Career Fair
November 13, 2017
Over 50 Catawba students attended one of the largest Metrolina Career Fairs yet, with over 80 companies and grad schools there to recruit students for internships, part time and full time opportunities. The fair is held at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte and is sponsored by the Career Consortium of Metrolina Colleges. Catawba College is a member of this consortium, with Robin Perry, Director of Career Services, just completing her tenure as President.
Hannah Scott, a senior Communications and Integrated Marketing major from Centerville, Maryland, did very well. She not only won a gift card to Target for filling out the survey after the fair, but made great connections with companies such as Wells Fargo, Mariner Finance, and Hendrick Auto. Because she wants to move back to Maryland after graduation, Scott asked these companies about opportunities there.
All three companies guided her to connections with their firms in Maryland so that she may apply. Making the most of her networking efforts at the career fair, Scott plans to follow up with the companies in hopes of finding that first job after graduation. “The fair was a lot of fun,” Hannah said, “and I made some valuable connections.”
Other Catawba students will be following up their discussions with companies such as Genpak, UPS, Spectrum, FedEx, the U.S. Whitewater Center, Bosch Rexroth, Wells Fargo, and the Marine Corps.
Thanks to the Ketner School of Business, over 40 students were provided a complimentary bus ride to this year's fair.
